Curriculum
The curriculum for Concordia is based on the Core Knowledge® Sequence K-8. The Sequence represents a first and ongoing attempt to state specifically a core of shared knowledge that children should learn in American schools. Scholastic’s Core Knowledge® Classroom Libraries offer an outstanding collection of authentic children’s literature designed to support the Core Knowledge® curriculum for Grades K-8. These libraries take students beyond functional literacy and shape them into culturally literate citizens.
Core Knowledge® Libraries cover a specific list of subjects, including language arts, history, geography, math, science, and the fine arts.
There is a separate library for each grade, K-5, and one library for 6-8. There are 160 books (80 titles; 2 copies of each) in the libraries for Kindergarten and Grade 1. There are 120 books (60 titles; 2 copies of each) in the libraries for Grades 2-8. Each library includes a classroom display box and a grade-specific Teacher Guide that introduces the philosophy of Core Knowledge®, and provides teachers with strategies for developing comprehension.
A+LS is a comprehensive, computer-based curriculum that enhances the Core Knowledge® Sequence through self-paced lesson plans and assessment tools. A+LS can also be used for independent skill building.
